November 21st, 2011: Young Frankenstein (1974)

Cast and Crew: Ken Strickfaden (Electrical Effects); Marty Feldman, Madeline Kahn, Cloris Leachman, Teri Garr, Kenneth Mars, Gene Hackman

What It’s About:  Dr. Frankenstein’s grandson (Gene Wilder) inherits his grandfather’s castle and repeats his experiment, creating another monster (Peter Boyle).  Can Frankenstein the Younger save his monster and avoid his grandfather’s fate?

Why Watch it Today?:  James Whale’s Frankenstein, which created the standard version of the Frankenstein story that Mel Brooks thoroughly and lovingly parodies in today’s film, was released 80 years ago today.

Where to Get It: Netflix (rental), Libraries

Mo Rating for Movember: Gene Wilder’s Mo is pretty awesome, but it’s Kenneth Mars who earns the film 5 out of 5 Mos.

I mean, just look at that thing. Inspirational!
