What It’s About: A young white author in Jackson, Mississippi begins to write a book based on conversations with black maids, telling their stories about the families they work for and their daily struggles during the civil rights movement of the 1960′s.

Why Watch it Today?: Civil rights leader Medgar Evans was murdered by white supremacists on this day in 1963, an event depicted at a turning point in this film.
