What It’s About: England, the 1920s: someone is murdering doctors in increasingly bizarre ways. Inspector Trout (Peter Jeffrey) must figure out who is committing the heinous crimes-and why-before it’s too late.
Why Watch it Today?: Today is the first day of Passover, the origin of the theme of the bizarre murders of Dr. Phibes-the plagues visited upon the Egyptians. Of course, liberties are taken to get the plagues to translate to personal murders, but The Abominable Dr. Phibes is a excellent black comedy, with anti-hero Phibes killing off doctors in increasingly stylish and outlandish ways while the forces of good remain baffled. The film also features strong performances from genre vets Vincent Price and Joseph Cotton. Celebrate the first day of Passover with Vincent Price!
