Cast and Crew: Jay Chandrasekhar (Director/Co-Writer); M. C. Gainey, Jurgen Prochnow, Will Forte, Ralph Moeller, Mo’Nique
What It’s About: Brothers Jan (Paul Soter) and Todd Wolfhouse (Erik Stolhanske) bring their grandfather Johan’s (Donald Sutherland) ashes to Munich to be scattered at Oktoberfest. There they discover an underground beer drinking contest, Beerfest, run by the branch of their family that remained in Germany. The brothers decide to compete but are completely humiliated. Baron Wolfgan von Wolfhausen (Jurgen Prochnow) accuses their grandfather of being a beer recipe thief and their great-grandmother (Cloris Leachman) of being a prostitute. Returning to the U.S., the Wolfhouse brothers gather their best drinking buddies and spend the year training for their return to Beerfest and their chance to redeem their honor.
Why Watch it Today?: Today is the first day of Oktoberfest, and today’s film is an amusing, if not great, flick from the Broken Lizard comedy troupe which combines their usual sense of humor with an affectionate spoof of sports movies, Fight Club, beer culture, and Germany.
