Cast and Crew: Roger Zelany (Novel); Jerry Goldsmith (Score); Paul Winfield, Jackie Earle Haley, Kip Niven
What It’s About: After World War 3, survivors at a missile base travel cross-country from Utah to Albany (in armored RVs because, hey, this *is* 1978) to investigate a continuous radio signal originating there. Along the way they will face mutant insects, radioactive rednecks, show girls, freak weather conditions, and Bears*.
Why Watch it Today?: Today is Jan Michael Vincent’s birthday (he was born in 1944). Although Vincent is known to those who grew up in the 1980s as the star of Airwolf (and perhaps for his career’s spectacular flame out), in the 1970s Vincent was moving towards starring action roles, generally paired with an older, more established actor. Here that actor is George Peppard, in a fun if not great “After the Bomb” road-trip buddy movie.
