OSS117: Lost in Rio

What It’s About: Hubert Bonisseur de la Bath (Jean Dujardin), codename OSS117, is a French secret agent who, as we see in the opening sequence, has been fighting the enemies of France since the Second World War.  In this installment, it is 1967 and OSS117 searches Brazil for a high-ranking Nazi.

Why Watch it Today?: For the last week of the World Cup we’re featuring movies about soccer and movies set or made in Brazil.  OSS117 is Michel Hazanavicius and Jean Dujardin’s follow-up to their successful update/spoof of the OSS117 character, OSS117: Cario, Nest of Spies.  It’s not quite as fresh or as amusing as the earlier film, but it still delivers a delirious spoof of 60s spy movies (Dujardin channels Sean Connery’s 007 body language uncannily) and, more germane to our programming this week, a tour of beautiful and iconic Brazilian locations.
