What It’s About: Dr. Richard Thorndyke (Mel Brooks) becomes the new head of The Psychoneurotic Institute for the Very, Very Nervous. Dr. Charles Montague (Harvey Korman) and Nurse Diesel (Cloris Leachman) murdered the previous head, Dr. Wentworth (Dick Van Patten) after he found out about the sane people Montague and Diesel kept in the Institute for their money. When Thorndyke becomes too much trouble for them, they frame him for murder. Can he clear his name and stop them before it’s too late?
Why Watch it Today?: Alfred Hitchcock, whose work Mel Brooks lovingly skewers here, was born today in 1899. All of Hitchcock’s biggest films, including previous Movies of the Day Psycho and Vertigo are sent up.
