February 11th, 2011: White Lightning (1973)

Cast and Crew:  Joseph Sargent (Director); William W. Norton (Writer); Jennifer Billingsly, Bo Hopkins, Diane Ladd, R. G. Armstrong

What It’s About: When corrupt Sheriff J. C. Connors (Ned Beatty)murders his convict Gator McKlusky’s(Burt Reynolds) brother, McKlusky agrees to go under cover to get the dirt on Connors involvement with moonshiners and murder.  Can Gator survive long enough to bring down this small town dictator?

Why Watch it Today?: Star Burt Reynolds was born today in 1936.  He is mostly remembered, depending on your age, for ever worse comedy chase movies or his role in Boogie Nights, but in the early 1970s, Reynolds was still an action star. White Lightning shows this other side of Reynolds, with a solid slice of country-fried action full of fist fights, car chases and gun play.  Read a full review here.
