Cast and Crew: Keith Gordon (Director); Sheryl Lee, Alan Arkin, Arye Gross, Frankie Faison, Zach Grenier, Kirsten Dunst
What It’s About: In an Israeli prison awaiting execution, American Matt Campbell, Jr. (Nick Nolte) writes his memoirs, claiming that an American intelligence operative (John Goodman) recruited him to infiltrate the Nazi party. To the outside world he is simply a collaborator, who spent the war broadcasting hateful Anti-Semitic propaganda for the Nazis.
Why Watch it Today?: Author Kurt Vonnegut died today in 2007. Mother Night is arguably the most successful adaptation of his work, funny, depressing and thought-provoking, with a strong performance by Nolte in the lead role. Both the novel and the film feature Adolf Eichmann (Henry Gibson) awaiting trial in Israel, a trial that began today in 1961.
