May 1st, 2011: Strike (1925)

What It’s About: Strike follows the stages of a strike in Tsarist Russia, including all the moves management uses to break the strike.

Why Watch it Today?: Today is May Day, celebrated internationally as the day for workers and organized labor.  Strike was famed Soviet director Sergei Eisenstein’s first feature film, featuring (pardon the pun) striking (if not always subtle) use of montage and imagery to get its point across.

Where to Get It: Netflix (Rental only), the Internet Archive, or Amazon
