What It’s About: Toward the end of WWII, a small band of Russian soldiers push into eastern Germany on a rescue mission for stranded forces. Why Watch It Today?: On this day in 1944, the Russian Army began the Memel Offensive. Memel was the last remaining territory that Nazi Germany had acquired “peacefully”, and the attack led to a lengthy siege that tied up German forces on the Eastern front. This led directly to the operations that finally brought the Russians into Germany.
