What It’s About:   Buford Pusser (Joe Don Baker), a former minor wrestler, returns to his hometown in rural Tennessee to discover it overrun with prostitution, gambling, and moonshining.  Pusser turns to the authorities for help, but, when they prove corrupt, he takes matters in to his own hands, successfully running for Sheriff and attacking the Dixie Mafia, usually while wielding his signature enormous stick.

Why Watch it Today?: Walking Tall is based on the life of Buford Pusser, who died today in 1974, officially in a car accident, though many believe he was murdered.
