What It’s About: Demobilized British officer Hugh “Bulldog” Drummond (Ronald Coleman) seeks excitement to break the monotony of post war life.  Advertizing in the paper that he’s looking for adventure, Drummond takes up the request of Phyllis Benton (Joan Bennett) for help in freeing her uncle Travers (Charles Sellon) from the crooks keeping him locked up in his own home.  Can Drummond save Travers?

Why Watch it Today?:  The British Army began demobilizing on this date in 1918Bulldog Drummond is a great preview of the pulpy fun to come in the sound era, with Drummond serving as a prototype for later film detectives and adventurers.  It’s aided immensely by a game cast, particularly matinée idol Ronald Coleman, who was nominated for an Oscar as the title character.
