June 26th, 2014: The Stabilizer

The Stabilizer

What It’s About:  Peter Goldson (Peter O’Brien) is The Stabilizer, the world’s top anti-drug agent.  When his arch nemesis (and spiked shoe enthusiast) Greg Rainmaker (Craig Gavin) kidnaps Professor Provost (Kaharuddin Syah), the inventor of a device that can detect any narcotic, Goldson is called in to stop Rainmaker…

Why Watch it Today?: Today is the UN’s International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, and what better way to mark this august occasion that by watching an Indonesian made anti-drug action film with an international cast?  The Stabilizer was made in Indonesia during a period when the government mandated a set percentage of films exhibited must be locally made.  The result of the law was a spate of locally made movies that hoped to recover their production cost on the international market by aping trends in Hollywood blockbusters and hiring Caucasians to round out the cast.  The Stabilizer is hilariously over the top and must be seen to be believed.  You can read the full review here.
