Cast and Crew: Carlo Ponti (Producer)

What It’s About: Three very different stories of three very different couples in 1960s Italy.  In each case the couples are played by Macello Mastrioanni and Sophia Loren.

Why Watch it Today?: Carlo Ponti, one of Italy’s biggest film producers, was born on this date in 1912.  Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow is not one of his all time great films, but it is an enjoyable showcase for Marcello and Loren (who married Ponti twice-from 1957 until 1962 and then from 1966 until his death in 2007), who get to play a poor couple with many children and criminal inclinations, a spoiled rich woman and an artist about to start an affair, and a prostitute and a determined john who must get an infatuated seminary student out-of-the-way.
