January 8th, 2011: (500) Days of Summer

500 Days of Summer-UK Poster

(500) Days of Summer

Cast and Crew:  Marc Webb (Director, Writer); Scott Neustadter (Writer); Clark Gregg

What It’s About: Narrator Richard McGonagle tells the story of Tom Hansen’s (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) life altering encounter with Summer Finn (Zooey Deschanel).  The film starts in media res, and, covers their romance from when they meet until Hansen gets closure and moves on.

Why Watch it Today?: On January 8th, Tom meets Summer, his boss’s new assistant, for the first time, and is instantly infatuated.  (500) Days of Summer is a solid romantic comedy, not too cynical, with a beating heart and style to spare, like the Summer of the title.  Also, look for the best use of a Hall and Oates song in recent memory.  Click here for my full review.

Where to Get It:  Netflix (rental only),  public libraries, iTunes or Amazon.
