Cast and Crew: Vincente Minnelli (Director); Arthur Freed (Producer)
What It’s About: New Yorkers Tommy Albright (Gene Kelly) and Jeff Douglas (Van Johnson) travel to Scotland to get away from it all. Tommy needs to sort out his feelings for his fiancé Jane (Elaine Stewart). While grouse hunting Tommy and Jeff get completely lost in a thick fog. When the mist clears they find themselves near a village not marked on the map, Brigadoon. Brigadoon is an extraordinarily happy community where people talk and act like it’s the 17th century. While the village prepares for a wedding, Tommy meets and instantly fall in love with Fiona (Cyd Charisse), the sister of the bride-to-be. There’s just one problem: Brigadoon only appears every hundred years, and if any local leaves the village, the town will disappear forever. Will Tommy give up his life in New York for a woman he’s known for mere hours?
Why Watch it Today?: The village of Brigadoon appears every hundred years on May 24th. For more about Brigadoon, read the full review.
