Why Watch it Today?:  Z is attacked on May 22nd in this excellent political thriller, based on events that happened in Greece in the early 1960s.  The real politician, Grigoris Lambrakis was also attacked today in 1963.  When the film was made the military junta that took control of Greece after the events depicted in the film were still in power, making this French film particularly compelling as an artifact of the period.
