Cast and Crew: Mara Corday

What It’s About: Volcanic activity in Mexico releases giant scorpions from deep within the Earth.  The largest kills the others and heads towards Mexico City.  Can American geologist Hank Scott (Richard Denning) find a way to stop The Black Scorpion before it’s too late?

Why Watch it Today?:  Star Richard Denning was born today in 1924.  Denning showed up in several 1950s sci-fi/horror films, including The Creature from the Black Lagoon and Target Earth in addition to today’s film, which was legendary stop-motion animator Willis O’Brien’s final project.

Other Choices:  Twice-Told Tales also features Richard Denning.

  1. Which, sadly, remained unfinished to a legendarily bad degree. Still, it’s one of my favorite Big Bug flicks, probably for some completely arbitrary and silly reason. Like the “exotic” locale which isn’t all that exotic. Or the fact it spawned one of my favorite episodes of MST3k. And one of my favorite episodes of Godzilla: The Series.

I’ve yet to see the MST3K edition of this, but I did always enjoy it as a solid B-Big Monster flick.
