Cast and Crew: Alfred Newman (Score); Saul Bass (Titles); Sonny Tufts, Carolyn Jones, Robert Strauss, Victor Moore
What It’s About: Richard Sherman (Tom Ewell), like so many other men, is about to be left alone in NYC for much of the summer while his wife takes his son out on summer vacation. Unlike most of his compatriots, Richard has every intention of remaining faithful to his wife (and her injunctions to eat well, get enough sleep, and stay off the cigarettes and the booze), and a very, very vivid imagination. When The Girl (Marilyn Monroe), a sexy, available pin-up model, sublets the apartment upstairs, how long can Richard resist?
Why Watch it Today?: Writer/Director/Producer Billy Wilder was born today in 1906. Wilder was gifted at making films that worked around the Production Code, although his adaptation of George Axelrod’s hit play drops some of the most racy lines. The Seven Year Itch takes place at this time of year, the start of summer, after schools let out. We hope you will enjoy yours-and that any summer visitors will be as lovely as The Girl.
Where to Get It: Your local library; Amazon, iTunes, Netflix or Vudu
Other Choices: Previous Wilder directed movies of the day include Sunset Boulevard, The Lost Weekend, Double Indemnity, and Some Like it Hot
