Cast and Crew: Mike Hodges (Director, Screenplay); Ted Lewis (Novel, “Jack’s Return Home”); Michael Caine, Ian Hendry, Britt Ekland, and John Osborne

What It’s About: Jack Carter (Michael Caine) returns to Newcastle to uncover the truth of his brother’s death. Honed by his years as a London gangster, Carter is a force to be reckoned with. But can he squeeze answers out of an entire city?

Why Watch It Today?: Michael Caine was born on this day in 1933. A reliable actor with many fine performances to his credit, it can sometimes be difficult to find him in a part that deserves his skill.

Here, Caine lends a fierce immediacy that still leaves room for sorrow and regret, turning a tough-guy role into an emotional hurricane. “Get Carter” is a great film that Caine makes unforgettable.

Other Options: Abby, Kingdom of the Spiders, The Swarm, The Man Who Would Be King
