What It’s About: Roderick Fitzgerald (Ray Milland) and his sister Pamela (Ruth Hussey) are on vacation when they stumble on a house that they simply must have. After they purchase it and move in, the siblings begin to suspect that they’ve also acquired a ghost.

Are their imaginations getting the best of them, or is there really a restless spirit that has a special interest in Roderick’s new girlfriend?

Why Watch It Today?: Ray Milland died on this day in 1986, at the age of 81. A prolific actor, his career spanned 7 decades taking him through such diverse genres as romantic comedy, hard drama, noir, catastrophe, and horror.

This film, nominated for an Oscar for Cinematography (black & white), is a blend of romantic comedy and Gothic horror that showcases Milland’s ability to add gravitas even while being flippant.
